(SIGH!) ..... chairs. I love chairs. I would say I love them as much as shoes. Yes. I am willing to 'go there'.
I love the design complexity, the simplicity in some of them, their fabrics, their texture, their feel.
As far as furniture goes, chairs are the icing to my chocolate cake.
Ok, enough about my weird love for chairs.
I am going to point out though, how simple and cost effective it can be to create your own statement piece. This $25.00 chair from Kmart is a fantastic art piece. It's a blank canvas. It's an opportunity to give your creative side a chance to shine.
The number one rule to remember when trying different textures, colours and fabrics is this one: Keep it simple.
Don't overload the design.
Apart from that, give it a try! You can always undo what you have done if you don't like it and still keep the chair intact.
Look at your colour scheme around your home. What colours are contrast colours? Which ones do you want to highlight? Which ones are your soft colours (our background colours)?
As I have dinning Rattan Chairs (There is a great video here on the blog about refurbishing old rattan chairs by the way, so don't miss it!) I chose to use natural colours and decided to keep the black as a the contrast colour against the white cotton.
However, the mustard yellow is also a fantastic choice.
The beauty about this project is that it doesn't end here. With every season, every new colour trend, wear and tear, no matter what the occasion; the materials can be easily replaced.
No need for cushions or throws, just the power of your creative self!
